Designer Nanette Lepore took a trip to Mars for her F/W '13 runway show, as models walked the runway in cosmic prints and intergalactic holographic shoes.
Sitting front row were a bevy of celebs including actress Ella Rae Peck (Deception), media mogul Arianna Huffington, stylist June Ambrose, musicians Kilo Kish and John Forté, gymnasts Aly Reisman and Nastia Liuken and the designer's close friends Patricia Clarkson (Easy A) and Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire).
Inspired by the Mars rover landing, the designer used photos from the mission as a base for the collection. “There was this idea of working with a darkness and deepness that was familiar yet unfamiliar,” Lepore told Fashionista. “It was interesting and fun to work in that direction.”
Lepore coupled classic pieces like tailored coats, army pants and shirtdresses with shimmery fabrics and holographic accessories for an inspired, yet completely wearable collection. Standout pieces included an intricately embroidered sheer little black dress, camouflage puffer coat and shimmery forest green pantsuit coupled with a sheer black embroidered top.
After the finale, Lepore walked the stage with her teenage daughter Violet, who she recently collaborated with while designing a junior's line for JC Penney.
