On the Rise: Olly Murs' 'Troublemaker' crashes into Billboard's top 50

Following the recent U.S. successes of One Direction and Cher Lloyd, fellow “The X Factor U.K” alum Olly Murs is breaking the states with his single, “Troublemaker,” featuring Flo Rida. The funky pop track cracked Billboard's top 50 singles this week, the music chart company reported on Thursday.

Murs rose to prominence in the U.K. following his exposure on series six of “The X Factor” in 2009. He has since amassed countless hits in his native country and is now looking to translate that success stateside. “Heart Skips a Beat,” his reggae-influnced pop song with Chiddy Bang, first impacted Billboard last year with a one-week stay at no. 96. His latest single, “Troublemaker,” has been making more noise on the all-genre Hot 100 single chart, climbing to no. 49 in its fourth week.

Over funky beats and Maroon 5-like guitars on “Troublemaker,” Murs sings about his obsession for a girl that's no good but keeps him coming back for more. Rapper Flo Rida later drops a verse on the track further explaining a penchant for those addictive ladies. While Murs seems to be losing his cool on the song, he appears to be the troublemaker in its music video. The woman of his eye can't manage to hold a job in the presence of the hip singer-songwriter. She flubs everything imaginable. The “Troublemaker” clip has been viewed over 26 million times on Youtube.

Murs' debut album in the U.S., “Right Place Right Time,” will be released on April 16.
