A Chorus Line

San Pedro Playhouse Russell Hill Rogers
September 17 - October 17, 2010 (no show Sept. 19)
This mega-hit is a celebration of those unsung heroes of the American Musical Theatre - the chorus dancers. It explores their exhilaration and heartbreak as thirty valiant, over dedicated, underpaid and highly trained performers audition for thirteen slots as back-up dancers in a new Broadway show. Revolutionary when it opened in 1975, it remains the most celebrated musical in Broadway history, a still searing exploration of what performers do 'for love', indeed, a celebration of the American Musical itself, our country's unique gift to the world.
Cast: Directed and choreographed by Christopher Rodriguez; music direction by Andrew Hendley.
Location: 800 W. Ashby Pl., San Pedro Park at Ashby
Times: Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 PM; Sundays at 2:30 PM

Harvey Comedy by Mary Chase
Boerne Community Theatre
September 17 - October 2, 2010
When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all. A great kick-off to BCT's 20th Anniversary Season!

The Carpetbagger's Children
by Horton Foote
San Pedro Playhouse Cellar Theater
September 17- 26
The Carpetbagger's Children kicks off a year-long tribute to Texas playwrights in the San Pedro Playhouse Cellar Theater. Opening August 27 and running through September 26, the play stars Rita Crosby, Elise Lopez and Magda Porter. Frank Latson directs.

Horton Foote's story takes us into the lives of three sisters from a well-to-do Texas family. Together they weave a tapestry of their family and community which is as chaotic and tragic as it is heart-warming, exhilarating and humorous.

"Few dramatists today can replicate this kind of storytelling with the gentle mastery that Mr. Foote provides in his 90-minute portrait of the decline of one fractious family in the small Texas town of Harrison, where most of his work is set." -- New York Times
Location: 800 W. Ashby Pl., San Pedro Park at Ashby
Times: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:30 PM
Tickets: Adults - $23 with a $3 discount for seniors 60 plus and active military; Students to age 22 with valid ID - $13. A $2 facility fee applies to each ticket.
