On tap: DFW craft beer events, week of January 28

Here's what's happening around the Metroplex during the week of January 28:

Special events:

"New" is the operative word this week, with new tours, new venues and new brews highlighting the week's events.

Looking to take a tour? Saturday options now include both Peticolas and the Community Beer Company (CBC). Peticolas will be working off a bi-weekly schedule, while Community joins the growing ranks of brewers with regular weekend tours. Both fall in line with a $10 cover charge, which includes logo glassware and limited samples.

On the debut front, a pair of brews will be hitting tap walls for the first time. That is, if you didn't get a chance to try them at the Dallas Winter Warmer. One of these will be at the aforementioned CBC tour and tasting, where they'll be unveiling their spiced winter warmer, a beer they call Regalement. The other will be FireWheel Special #1 - A Better Brown Ale, which will be making the rounds at three area establishments on separate nights later in the week.

Speaking of "weeks" it's Barley Wine Week at the Flying Saucer on the Lake. Big beers will be on the bill nightly, tapping each day at 5 p.m. according to the following schedule:

  • Monday - 2011 Avery Hog Heaven
  • Tuesday - 2012 Green Flash/Cigar City Candela
  • Wednesday - 2012 Great Divide Old Ruffian
  • Thursday - 2011 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot
  • Friday - 2012 Brooklyn Monster

Lastly, Saturday afternoon brings us yet another Grand Opening celebration. This time it's at Craft and Growler in Dallas, where they'll feature rare tappings, food trucks and hourly giveaways. Special pours include Lakewood Bourbon Barrel Temptress and a firkin of dry-hopped Deep Ellum Festivus, cask-conditioned with orange peel.
