The Ohio Association of Foodbanks is partnering with the United Way of Central Ohio and AARP to provide free tax filing assistance on Saturday, February 2 as part of Ohio's first Free My Refund Day. Ohio's Free My Refund Day is a statewide effort to make free tax filing available during weekend hours to accommodate working families.
"We believe that every Ohioan deserves to hold on to their full tax refund, because it's money they have earned," said Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, executive director of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. "Our goal is to put more federal money into the pockets of our neighbors and friends to help them put food on the table, pay bills, build their savings, and grow the local economy."
Appointments are available from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Columbus Downtown High School, 364 South 4th Street. Appointments can be made by calling 1-800-648-1176. Free parking will be available in the Columbus Downtown High School parking lot.
Most Ohio taxpayers with annual household incomes of less than $60,000 are eligible to file their taxes for free with The Ohio Benefit Bank. When making an appointment, taxpayers will receive information about the documents they will need to bring with them to file their taxes, including wage statements, prior tax forms, and personal identification information.
This Free My Refund Day event will also feature a comprehensive resource fair, including free health screenings from Nationwide Children's Hospital, financial resources from Fifth Third Bank, and a free legal aid clinic from The Legal Aid Society of Columbus to name a few.
