ApoeticLife.com has seen its highest numbers ever because of the latest article called “A Child Molester’s Nightmare” which I was inspired to write after a historical television event I was apart of which will air on Friday on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I want to thank so many of you for your support, and I will continue to lend my voice to the cause so that others can know what I didn’t as a child which is that they are not alone. Here’s an excerpt from “A Child Molester’s Nightmare”.

When you watch The Oprah Winfrey Show on Nov 5th there’s a good chance that you will see this picture. It is a picture of me as child at the approximate age I was sexually molested the first time. On Oct 20th I stood with 200 hundred men from all walks of life with whom I shared an ugly bond. We came from around the world to tell the world that the silence is over. Out of the silence we came into the light, 200 men with the same demons to fight. As we marched into the legendary Harpo Studios, camera crews filmed each of us as we took our rightful places as survivors for this historical television event. As I took my seat I looked around with a profound feeling of compassion that filled the studio. “Oh my God” those were my words when I looked to my right and saw that my picture was one of eight that Oprah’s staff had blown up into huge portraits for display on four towers that stood around the set. We have heard all our lives that boys shouldn’t cry, yet here I am around 200 men where my tears have never been more understood. (To read “A Child Molester’s Nightmare” in full click here)

Akil, Bravo to you for your bravery in speaking out. I cry with you. It takes a lot of courage to stand in the truth. I am so sorry for what you went through. I wish you much healing in your life. We stand together in the truth and in ending child sexual abuse in our society today. The silence ends with us.
