On July 4th America is wavering in its birth on religious principles

George Washington declared in his departing address that “you cannot have national morality apart from religious principles”. Washington should know since he is universally proclaimed the father of our Country.

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty , as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers”, disclosed by John Jay, America’s First Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court.

“Take what you can from the Bible by reason, the rest by faith”, noted Abraham Lincoln.

Listen to a foreign opinion on American society by Alexis De Tocqueville, French observer of America in 1831, “The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other”.

James Madison declared, “Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon Earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity?”

The House Judiciary Committee Report stipulated in March 27, 1854: “At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and the amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged. In this age there can be no substitute for Christianity, that the religion of the founders of the republic and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants”.

The Senate Judiciary Committee Report of January 19, 1853 said, “We are a Christian people…not because the Law demands it, not to gain exclusive benefits, or to avoid legal disabilities, but from choice and education, and in a land thus universally Christian, what is to be expected, what desired, but that we shall pay due regard to Christianity?”

The Yale University’s 1787 Student Guideline Handbook instructed, “All the scholars are required to live a religious and blameless life according to the rules of God’s Word, diligently reading the Holy Scriptures, that fountain of Divine light and truth, and constantly attending all the duties of religion.”

Harvard’s 1636 Student Guideline declared, “Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well the main end of his life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning’.

Whether by our education system, by presidents, by members of the House of Representatives or Senate, Supreme Court justices, or foreign observers, America’s foundational principles came from the basic theology of Christianity and a firm belief in the truths established on God’s word. It was our founding fathers’ choice and decision.

Thanks Hobby Lobby for reminding us of our nation’s REAL heritage in more ways than one.
