Bob Brown, pastor of Albuquerque's Christ Community Fellowship wrote the following:
I wonder if you are like me – I get so tired of religion! To put a sharper point on it, and to be entirely honest, I know of nothing that is quite so boring as Christianity without Christ!
Many people…countless people, have stopped going to a place of worship simply because they are sick of going through the motions of a dead religion. Have you ever had the lights go out in the house only to find that when you were able to locate the flashlight in the dark and turned it on it did not act like a flashlight because the batteries had gone dead?
If so, you have discovered that a flashlight without batteries will not act like a flashlight!
In the same way, a car without gas will still be a car, but not act like a car!
May I ask you a question? Are you a Christian? You say, “Yes, I am! I can go back to the time and place when I received Christ into my life.” My response is, “That’s wonderful!” Now I have another question…“Are you being the Christian that you became on the day of your salvation?”
Just like the flashlight or the car needing something to enable them to act like what they are, there is something needed for the Christian to be the Christian that they have become…and that something is Christ!
I don’t mean thoughts about Him or principles that He taught…I mean Christ!
He is alive in us if we are Christians and it is He and He alone that allows the Christian to be the Christian that they have become! [ellipses in original]
