Day 6 Provocations
Let’s get specific. Not all of these may apply to you, but see if there are not a few questions that go to the core of your life today.
How much does what others think of you affect your decision making?
How often would you change your decision if only God knew what you were doing and nobody else did?
Sometimes we just say damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead. It’s that good ole American machismo that seems to free us from our fears momentarily so we can do what we think we should and be liberated from our fears for the moment. If such a childish emotional trick (that we play on ourselves) seems to work for a little while, would you be willing just to trust God and do what you think you should be doing and be liberated for a long while?
How often would we make different decisions if we held a family meeting each morning and after prayer, the reading of the scriptures aloud, we then stated the mission for the day—in terms of what we should do for God and our neighbor?
When we try to explain life to our children, do we really convey the message that we trust God or do we convey the message that it’s a tough world out there and you better always be looking out for yourself and your family?
In what areas of our lives do we fear failing the most?
What fears do we have for our children?
Having inventoried our fears, what do we do about them?
