We've written previously about the exciting renovations that recently took place at Omni Amelia Island Plantation after it was purchased by Omni Hotels & Resorts. Since 2010, Omni has invested $85 million into the remodel, which included 125 new rooms/suites and a ballroom. The resort rests on a huge piece of property totaling 1,350 acres and offers 404 oceanfront rooms/suites, the largest pool deck in Northeast Florida, adults-only swimming pool, family pool where kids can splash separately from the adults, tennis courts, 54 championship holes of golf, and 9 dining options.

In this article, we will focus on two of the Omni Amelia Island Planation restaurants: Oceanside and Sunrise Cafe. These restaurants were once exclusive to hotel guests, but now they are open to the public. Food and Beverage Director Chris Walling and Executive Chef Daven Wardynski have overseen the renovation and re-opening of the restaurants at the resort and they are offering some exciting menu items that Jacksonville foodies should want to check out. We plan to provide more in-depth reviews of both Oceanside and Sunrise Cafe in the near future. For now, here is an overview of both restaurants and some highlights from both menus:

Oceanside: This restaurant seeks to accentuate the best of casual dining by the beach, with large doors opening to a panoramic ocean view. Flip-flops are fine for this restaurant, which offers a Florida and Caribbean fusion. Lunch is served from 11am-6pm and dinner runs from 6pm-9pm. Here are some highlights from the menu:

Georgia Peach Salad ($10): butter lettuce, roasted pecan, topped with honey vinaigrette
Grilled Oysters Rockefeller ($10): served with spinach and lemon
House-Ground Meatballs ($10): with a charred tomato sauce
Braised Beef Short Rib ($26): apple, radish, and pickled carrot
Florida Swordfish ($29): with lemon, cucumber, and dill
Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($8)

Sunrise Cafe: Specializing in breakfast and serving dinner, the Sunrise Cafe is located in a casual environment on a patio overlooking the ocean. They are open for breakfast daily from 6:30am-11am and for dinner on Wednesday through Saturday from 5pm-9pm. For breakfast, they have a-la-cart items like pancakes, Belgian waffles, and Eggs Benedict. Diners can also enjoy The Art of Breakfast Buffet ($20) with omelets, smoked salmon, bagels, bacon, and more. The restaurant is also now offering a new Sunrise After Dark dinner menu, which features classic southern dishes like cider braised pork (butter beans, apple, black kale, oats) and beef Short Rib (fig, arugula, lemon).
