OMG…I Just Saw a Ghost!!

See also

You were sitting along in your living room, minding your own business. Something, or someone, just crossed across the hallway. But that is not possible. You are home alone. Curious about what it was, you get up and walk toward the area where you thought you saw someone. When you get there you see nothing.

A few days later, you are in the living room again, but this time, you are focused more on the hallway. As you sit and wait you finally see it. A ghost appears at one end of the hallway and walks across to the other end, disappearing into the wall.

Seeing a ghost can bring up many different emotions, including fear and excitement. It does not matter how many times a person may see a ghost, it can be a frightening thing. For most it is not fear of the ghost, it is the being caught off guard or seeing someone in your home when you know you are supposed to be alone.

Though you may feel like running and screaming, the best thing you can do it to not be afraid and remain calm. The last thing you want is to panic. The ghost you just saw is nothing to fear. It is just another entity living in your home.
Okay, maybe not as reassuring as you may have hoped, but in all reality, most ghosts are completely harmless.

To better help you deal with your recent ghost sighting, I have put together the following tips:

Do not freak out

Fight the urge to scream, run and flea the area. Remember, not many living people have had the privilege of being face-to-face with a ghost. Consider it an honor.

Plus, some evil entities feed off the fear of the living. Showing fear will only encourage the ghost to continue haunting and causing havoc in your home.

Say “hello”

Though I do not encourage communicating with a ghost unless you are trained and experienced to do so, this is the one time you should give it a try. When you are face-to-face with a ghost is the time to try and say “hello.” This will help determine if it is a friendly and intelligent haunt.

Remember, you should never taunt or call out a ghost that has never made its presence known. Doing so could open lines of communication you may not want to open and may never be able to close. Just remember to stay calm. If you do not feel comfortable communicating with the ghost, calmly walk away and call a local paranormal group for help.

Take pictures

If you have a camera easily accessible try to shoot a photo or two of the ghost. Do not use the flash on the camera, because this could distort the photo and create false readings when being analyzed at a later time.

Get some audio

If you are able to, try to record some audio. Many cell phones and video cameras offer a voice recording option. Try to capture your conversation with the ghost or any noises within the home while the entity is visible.

Call in reinforcements

There are many experts in your community who are willing and trained to help others deal with the paranormal. They will be more than happy to come to your home, free of charge, to help investigate your experiences. In the end, they will be able to offer you tips and advice on how to deal with the ghost.

Document everything

To help with any future investigations it is important to document everything. Take notes about the following items each and every time you see a ghost within your home:

  • Time
  • Date
  • Location
  • Who was home
  • What happened
  • What was the weather like
  • What did it look like
  • Was it male or female
  • What was the estimated age, weight and height
  • Where there any identifying features, such as race, color and types of clothing
  • What was the posture - sitting, standing, still or moving
  • Did it make any facial expressions
  • Was it full bodied or partial
  • Did it say anything
  • Was it carrying anything
  • Anything else you can think of about the incident

Hopefully these tips will help you handle seeing your first ghost. It may be scary at first, but trust me, it is definitely a privilege. The paranormal, especially intelligent spirits, do not generally like to be seen and will only show themselves if they feel comfortable doing so.

Happy haunting!
