For the second week in a row, "Olympus Has Fallen" was No. 1 for movies on demand from Aug. 19 to Aug. 25, 2013, according to Rentrak. When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning (played by Gerard Butler) finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning¹s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President (played by Aaron Eckhart), and avert an even bigger crisis. "Olympus Has Fallen" got mixed reviews from critics, but the movie was a solid hit at the box office.
"Epic" debuted at No. 2. In this animated film, a teenager (voiced by Amanda Seyfried) is transported to a magical world and recruited by a nature spirit, Queen Tara (voiced by Beyoncé Knowles), to help the “Leafmen” save their existence — and ours — from evil warriors. The whole family will love this fast-paced thrill-ride, with its astonishing animation and an all-star voice cast that includes Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Jason Sudeikis, Christoph Waltz and Steven Tyler. "Epic" got mostly good reviews and was a blockbuster in theaters.
"The Big Wedding" held steady No. 3 for a second week. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (played by Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son's wedding after his ultra-conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend. With all of the wedding guests looking on, including Don's former mistress/current girlfriend (played by Susan Sarandon), the Griffins are hilariously forced to confront their past, present and future and hopefully avoid killing each other in the process. "The Big Wedding" was a big flop with movie critics and in movie theaters.
"Oblivion" dropped from No. 2 to No. 4. Tom Cruise stars in "Oblivion," an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the visionary director of "Tron: Legacy" and producers of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. "Oblivion" got mixed reviews from critics and was a solid hit at the box office.
"Scary Movie 5" debuted at No. 5. The raunchy comedy has spoofs of "Black Swan," "Inception," "127 Hours," "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," "Paranormal Activity "and many other movies. The "Scary Movie 5" cast includes Simon Rex, Ashley Tisdale, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Snoop Dogg, Terry Crews, Kate Walsh and Mike Tyson. "Scary Movie 5" was a flop with critics and in movie theaters.
