Winter Olympics
Ah yes, the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games are over. Who wins the "Olympics Dummy Award"?
Well, imagine training your entire life. You miss your Olympic race because your cellphone was turned off. Probably, the Olympic Committee from your own country wants to jail you.
But at least you win our award.
Missing out the chance to compete in the Winter Olympics was 19-year old German speed skater Patrick Beckert because he turned off his cell phone before the beginning of the Men's 1000m race.
Officials had been contacting Beckert, who was to be the fourth alternate for the competition.
The spot became available when Italy’s Enrico Fabis, the two-time gold medalist pulled out from the race an hour before the race was set to start.
The first three alternates were also contacted by officials to no avail. Seventeen minutes before the race, Beckert called back but it was too late.
