Olympian Staale Sandbech won a silver medal in men’s slopestyle and was an active participant in the medal ceremony in Sochi. In fact it would have been impossible to miss the snowboarder as he decided to get a Mohawk makeover. According to the Washington Post on Saturday, the look took little time to pull off as he got his serious cut in-between the time he won the medal and was on the medal podium. So at most it was a few hours.
The 20-year-old Norwegian got a haircut at some point and what everyone saw on the podium had people gawking, but it’s doubtful he even cared as he is a winning athlete after all. Walking up to get his medal the athlete’s hair was standing about six inches off the top of his head. With shaved sides and the patch in the center looking quite irreverent, it was a picture to remember.
Keeping in mind that the athlete looked much more normal when he took the course with hair around his head, it was seen coming out of the bottom of his helmet ever so slightly. The Mohawk was quite a shock for everyone watching the medal ceremony live. It also gave everyone a look into the backside of the Slopestyle culture as there isn't a figure skater in Sochi who would try such an antic.
