With the early rounds of hockey in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi over, it is just about time for the medal round. As of Monday, Feb. 16, 2014, the medal round was revealed by Yahoo Sports and the Olympic hockey bracket was put forth for the world to see.

One of the things that a lot of people notice right away is that a match-up between the United States and Canada is rather likely for the semifinals and a right to get to the gold medal game.

Sweden ended up taking the number one overall seed with the United States right behind them, Canada in third, and Finland in fourth. They automatically bypass the elimination round and have a bye to the quarterfinals.

The elimination round match-ups are as follows:

  • No. 8 Slovenia vs. No. 9 Austria
  • No. 5 Russia vs. No. 12 Norway
  • No. 6 Switzerland vs. No. 11 Latvia
  • No. 7 Czech Republic vs. No. 10 Slovakia

The United States will face off with either the Czech Republic or Slovakia in the quarterfinals. The Americans defeated Slovakia 7-1 in their first game of the the Sochi Olympics.

A number of interesting match-ups are ahead in the Olympic hockey bracket, and the majority of them are possible come the second and third rounds. The elimination round begins on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.
