Olympic ice dancing gold medalist Charlie White may have not won “Dancing With the Stars” this season, but he’s won something better. Charlie's won the heart of the woman he loves. According to Parade magazine on June 10, Charlie asked longtime girlfriend Tanith Belbin to marry him and she said yes.
Charlie’s had a very busy few months. First he won the gold medal for ice dancing at the Sochi Olympics with Meryl Davis. He barely got a breather before he quick stepped into the hearts of America on Season 18 of “Dancing With the Stars.” For the first time in 17 years, Charlie and Meryl were actually competing against one another.
Charlie was partnered with pro Sharna Burgess. Sadly, they only came in fifth, despite Charlie being a favorite. Partner Meryl Davis won the mirror ball trophy with her dance pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Once the show was over, it was time for Charlie to get his life in order. He began planning to ask Tanith to marry him. Tanith Belbin is also an Olympic ice dancer who skates with partner Ben Agosto. That pair won the silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
So with a gold medal behind him and a season on “Dancing With the Stars,” it was time for Charlie and Tanith. He cut his hair and popped the question in Hawaii. As you can imagine, Tanith said yes. Charlie happily posted a photo of the couple on his Instagram stating "Couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting for the best time in our life!" along with the hashtag #shesaidyes.
And how does Meryl Davis feel about the engagement? She's really happy for Charlie and Tanith. When it was announced, Meryl tweeted, “Congrats to these two! Beautiful girl, beautiful”
And now it’s time for a little R&R for Charlie and Tanith. No news yet as to when the wedding will be, but Charlie is taking some time off. He posted another photo on Instagram, one of himself and Meryl Davis, with the caption, “Official announcement is out – we’re taking the next season off to do our thing! Good news though – we shall continue to exist and will be around!”
Congratulations, Charlie & Tanith!
