Olympic figure skater Ashley Wagner speaks out about US Olympic team controversy

Ashley Wagner, who won the US Figure Skating Championships in 2012 and 2013, placed 4th at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She fell twice during her free skate performance and also made mistake during the short program initial phase of the US ladies championship event.

It is "unheard of" for a figure skater who places fourth at the United States "Nationals" to be selected over the top three finishers for the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team, but based on her competitive record for the past few seasons, US Figure Skating's Olympic selection committee chose Wagner over 2014 bronze medal winner and 2010 Olympian Mirai Nagusu. This decision has caused much controversy and uproar.

“Twitter is a blessing and a curse at the same time,” Wagner stated after an explosion of hostility about the decision seemed to erupt on social media. “It’s tough to filter out the good things that you hear and the awful things that people will write, so I'm going cold turkey."

Wagner went on to say that Saturday, January 11, 2014 was just not her night, but she'd had other "good skating nights" in recent years that proved she was a good choice for the 2014 US Olympic figure skating team.

What are your thoughts? Should Ashley be going to Sochi or should it be Mirai?
