A 19-year-old Olympic diver was upset about some misquotes in an article where he denied being gay, and so he told his own story on YouTube.
The frank discussion was made just after he told his family—and although his mother was supportive, he said some family members thought he shouldn't say anything.
He said, "Life has been a rollercoaster the last couple of years…" and he mentioned dealing with his father's cancer, his winning a medal and more.
He points out:
"In an ideal world I wouldn’t be doing this video because it wouldn’t matter."
He has been dating women in the past, and suddenly found himself dating a guy.
"It did take me by surprise… it felt right."
He is getting criticized by some in the gay community because he still has a foot on the heterosexual side, but that of course, denies his potential bisexuality.
"Of course I still fancy girls. Right now I’m with a guy, and it feels right," he says.
He believes his father would be proud. "I told the rest of my family, they have mixed opinions."
