One Direction, James Arthur and Olly Murs were among 2012's top-selling "X Factor" U.K. artists in the U.K. for albums and singles.
The Official Charts Company released U.K. music sales figures for 2012. And several former "X Factor" U.K. contestants made it on the lists of the Top 40 best-selling albums and singles of the year.
Here are the artists, followed by the number of copies sold in the U.K. in 2012:
Olly Murs (second place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2009)
- No. 7 U.K. album of 2012: "Right Place Right Time" - 570,000 copies
- No. 20 U.K. album of 2012: "In Case You Didn't Know" - 332,000 copies
- No. 29 U.K. single of 2012: "Troublemaker" (featuring Flo Rida) - 441,000 copies
One Direction (third place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010)
- No. 5 U.K. album of 2012: "Take Me Home" - 616,000 copies
- No. 15 U.K. album of 2012: "Up All Night" - 372,000 copies
James Arthur (first place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2012)
- No. 5 U.K. single of 2012: "Impossible" - 897,000 copies
Little Mix (first place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2011)
- No. 39 U.K. album of 2012: "DNA" - 234,000 copies
- No. 40 U.K. single of 2012: "Wings" - 397,000 copies
Rebecca Ferguson (second place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010)
- No. 36 U.K. album of 2012: "Heaven" - 242,300 copies
As previously reported, Murs, One Direction and Murs are nominated for prizes at the 2013 Brit Awards, which will be held Feb. 20 at the O2 Arena in London.
Murs is nominated for Best British Single ("Troublemaker") and Best British Male Solo Artist.
One Direction is nominated for Best British Group and Best Brits Global Success.
Arthur is nominated for Best British Single ("Impossible").
The No. 1-selling album in the U.K. in 2012 was Emeli Sandé's "Our Version of Events," with 1,393,000 copies sold in the U.K. that year.
The No. 1 selling single in the U.K. in 2012 was Gotye featuring Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used to Know," with 1,131,800 copies sold in the U.K. that year.
