Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com.

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

Female

Olivia Smith- Calais- softball-The junior pitched a complete game five hitter with 12 strikeouts, and recorded three hits, including a home run, and four RBI in 12-0 quarterfinal victory over Sumner. Pitched a complete game two hitter with seven strikeouts, and recorded three hits, including a double and a triple in 10-2 semifinal victory over Washington Academy.

Smith and the Blue Devils will take on Bucksport in the class C regional final on Tuesday. Calais (18-0) has outscored their opponents 245-13 this season.

Smith is the second student/athlete from Calais high school to be named athlete of the week. She joins Devin Hall, who earned the honor twice.

Runner up

Alanna Davis- Bucksport- softball- Had three hits, including a double, and three RBI in 8-0 quarterfinal victory over Dexter. Had two hits, including a double, and four RBI in 8-1 semifinal victory over Central.

Other nominations

Kylie Cunningham, Bangor -softball- The catcher, had a strong game against the Cony Rams at the KVAC Softball Championships on both sides of the plate. She went 2-3, had a delayed steal, scored, threw out a base stealer at second after an errant throw to home that sailed over her head and went to the backstop, had a 2-2-6 double play and a beautifully fielded bunt.

Sally Lockhart- Sumner- softball- Pitched a complete game two hitter in 16-0 prelim victory over Narraguagus.

Lauren Jamo- Stearns- softball- Had three hits, including two doubles and two RBI in 17-5 prelim victory over Central Aroostook.

Audrey Dunstan- Stearns- softball- Had three hits and three RBI in 17-5 prelim victory over Central Aroostook.

Whitney Guy- Stearns- softball- Had two hits and three RBI in 17-5 prelim victory over Central Aroostook.

Cassidy McLeod- Stearns- softball- Had three hits and three RBI in 17-5 prelim victory over Central Aroostook.

Jessicca Girsa- Stearns- softball- Pitched a complete game six hitter with seven strikeouts in 17-5 prelim victory over Central Aroostook.

Hannah Doble- Winslow- softball- Had two doubles and five RBI plus earned the pitching victory by allowing one earned run and three hits while striking out seven in 10-3 prelim victory over Medomak.

Alexis Levesque- Madawaska- softball- Had four hits and two RBI, including the walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning in 10-9 prelim victory over George Stevens.

Hannah Shaw- MDI - softball- Had three hits, including a two run homer in 11-1 prelim victory over Camden Hills. Had two hits in 10-9 quarterfinal loss to Old Town.

Sierra Myrick- MDI- softball- Had three hits, including a double and two RBI in 11-1 prelim victory over Camden Hills.

Becca Kelley - Central- softball- Pitched a three hitter with six strikeouts in 9-1 quarterfinal victory over Madawaska.

Taylor Robichaud- Central- softball- Had four hits (three doubles), three runs scored, and two RBI in 9-1 quarterfinal victory over Madawaska. Had one hit and one run scored in 8-1 semifinal loss to Bucksport.

Brittany Cousins- Old Town- softball- Had four hits in 10-9 quarterfinal victory over MDI.

Rachel Martin- Old Town- softball- Had four RBI and was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts in 10-9 quarterfinal victory over MDI.

Karli Theberge- Hermon- softball- Allowed only one earned run and went 2-4 with three RBI in 10-5 quarterfinal victory over Winslow. Allowed only one earned run in 6-4 semifinal victory over previously unbeaten Old Town. She went 2-3 with a double and a huge home run. She reached base all four times (including an intentional walk).
