November 3, 2011 (New York, NY) -- A few weeks back the good folks at Abrams Books gave away the companion book to the Martin Scorsese documentary "George Harrison: Living in the Material World." Now they are bringing George's widow to New York City for a book signing and Q&A with rock historian Warren Zanes.
The event will take place at the Barnes & Noble at 2289 Broadway (at 82nd Street) at 7 PM tomorrow, Friday, November 4th.
The book is fantastic, even better than the documentary in my opinion, so if you're in the area you should really try to make it to get your copy signed by Olivia and to see what she has to say about George, the documentary, and maybe even what fans can expect in the future. I was recently lucky enough to attend one of the post-screening events with the filmmakers that Olivia was part of and I have to say that there's nothing like hearing it directly from someone who lived the life.
Here are some more details about the book:
George Harrison: Living in the Material World by Olivia Harrison, edited by Mark Holborn (Abrams; October 2011; U.S. $40.00, Can. $45.00; ISBN: 978-0-4197-0220-4), will be published to coincide with the release of Martin Scorsese’s documentary of the same name, set to air in two parts on HBO October 5th and 6th, 2011. Drawing on George Harrison's extensive collection of photographs, diaries, letters and memorabilia, Olivia Harrison reveals the arc of her much-celebrated husband's life, from his guitar-obsessed youth in Liverpool and the astonishment of the Beatles years, to his days as an independent musician and bohemian squire. Here, too, is the record of Harrison's lifelong commitment to Indian music, and his adventures as a movie producer, one part of the Traveling Wilburys and Formula One car racing fan.
The book is filled with reminiscences from Harrison's friends, including Eric Clapton, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Also among its previously unpublished riches are photographs taken by Harrison himself beginning in the mid-1960's. George Harrison: Living in the Material World is a rich tribute to a man who touched the lives of millions.
