Ron Paul has received an endorsement from film director Oliver Stone.
Despite his reputation as an outspoken left-of-center critic of the GOP, Stone announced that a particular Republican presidential candidate would be his choice, even in the general election.
Stone discussed presidential politics in an interview with Rock Cellar Magazine.
“In fact, I think in many ways the most interesting candidate – I’d even vote for him if he was running against Obama – is Ron Paul,” Stone said. “Because he’s the only one of anybody who’s saying anything intelligent about the future of the world.”
The multiple Academy Award winner is known for directing films about the Vietnam War, a conflict in which he participated as an infantry soldier.
The U.K. Guardian has described Stone as "one of the few committed men of the left working in mainstream American cinema."
In the magazine interview, Stone praised Paul’s foreign policy.
“Why is it necessary for every candidate – except for Ron Paul – to pay obeisance to this hypocrisy that the U.S. is a good force in the world, and that it is the dominant force, and can be the policeman of the world? Since when? What gave us that right?” Stone asked.
