Jordan Oliver didn’t disappoint the local fans as the Easton, Pa. native got a 7-2 win over Bubba Jenkins in the top-of-the-card match at the first-ever Who’s No. 1 high school wrestling dual meet at Lehigh University Saturday evening.
Oliver, a two-time NCAA champ from Oklahoma State (2011, 2013) who grew up in the Lehigh Valley scored the first two takedowns, then racked up three back points, on his way to defeating Jenkins, a Virginia native who won his title for Arizona State at the 2011 NCAAs by pinning former teammate David Taylor in the finals.
It's been a tough fall for Jenkins. In addition to his loss at Who's No. 1, the former Nittany Lion-turned-Sun Devil suffered his first loss in his fledgling mixed martial arts career in September.
The event, sponsored by amateur wrestling website Flowrestling.org, was a showcase of the nation’s top high school wrestlers, held at Lehigh’s Leeman-Turner Arena inside Grace Hall, also known as “the Snake Pit.”
