Olga Graf of Russia was not expected to medal in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but she did end up snagging a bronze medal in the women's 3,000-meter speedskating race on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014. In her unexpected excitement, she almost ended up having a wardrobe malfunction while she celebrated.
Once she finished in third, her celebration turned almost very embarrassing.
Upon her time of four minutes and 3.47 seconds flashing on the board, she realized she had a personal best and threw her arms into the air for her warm-down lap. She also unzipped her skin-tight suit down to her bellybutton.
The only problem is that she didn't remember that she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
"I totally forgot," Graf said sheepishly through a translator. "We have very good suits and they are very tight. ... You just want to breathe and you want to take off your suit."
Upon realizing her little Olympic error, she zipped up her suit very quickly and got an embarrassed smile on her face.
"Only afterward," she said, "did I realize that maybe this video will appear on YouTube. But I don't think it will be so bad."
The unexpected medal was one that made the host country very pleased and a whole number of others. Russian President Vladimir Putin even said that Graf "brought an unforgettable moment of triumph and utter joy to millions of fans by taking the first medal for our team."
