Oleta Adams is bringing a special Christmas celebration to Cerritos

Oleta Adams is on the bill of Dave Koz and Friends Christmas Tour 2013, which arrives in Cerritos, CA on December 20 and 21 where she’ll be appearing along with Jonathan Butler, Keiko Matsui and, of course, Dave Koz. Shows such as these are Adams’ way of reliving Christmases of her childhood.
“It’s kind of nice to revisit the things from the past,” she explains, “the things that were wonderful, innocent and exciting about Christmas. And a lot of that has to do with the sights and the sounds, the smells and the whole feelings of Christmas. And that’s what I really love about shows like these. There’s nothing like going to hear a song that you heard first when you were a child. It’s not that you want to be a child again; you just want to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.”
There is so much wonderful Christmas music to choose from. Yet, when put on the spot, Adams is able to name a few of her big holiday favorites.
“I love “The Christmas Song” whenever I hear Nat King Cole sing it,” she says. “It could be July. It puts me in the mood for Christmas. I just love hearing his voice and I love the song. It’s just beautifully done. And then I love all of the Charlie Brown Christmas songs because they played the show since I was a kid. But, of course, I love those traditional ones, such as “Silent Night.” I also have some new favorites, but I don’t get a chance to sing them often. There’s one, “Breathe of Heaven,” that I absolutely adore.”
Not surprisingly, some of Adams’ fondest Christmas memories have a musical connection.
“I remember when my great uncle gave everybody radios,” she recalls. “He gave mom an alarm clock radio – a big one. And I remember that my sister and I got transistor radios. And they were a big thing back then, with the little leather covers on them. And oh, that was just so cool! I loved listening to anything that was musical.”
Adams is one of today’s most soulful singers, and if you’re fortunate enough to share one of these special concerts with her, you’ll be sure to create some wonderful new Christmas memories of your own.
