Barbecue season is in full operation in most Americans’ backyards right now.
To kick off the grilling season right, we recommend pairing up those burgers, dogs, racks of ribs and grilled chicken with some moonshine.
There are 10 different flavors in the line from Tennessee, including Original Moonshine (our favorite), White Lightnin’, Moonshine Cherries, Peach Moonshine, Apple Pie Moonshine, Blackberry Moonshine, Strawberry Moonshine, Lemon Drop Moonshine and Charred Moonshine. Each bottle retails for around $25.
The Gatlinburg, Tennessee distillery creates and distributes these flavors to 49 states and Canada. If you are lucky enough to live in Tennessee, California or Hawaii, these states offer Pineapple Moonshine as well. This is the first legal distillery of its kind located in the United States. Tennessee's first legal moonshine distillery is open in Gatlinburg, offering free tours, complimentary tastings, and products for sale, including T-shirts, shot glasses and coolers.
We loved trying out the Corn N Cola drink recipe, a simple combination of two parts of Original Moonshine and two and a half parts cola served over ice. We look forward to trying the Apple Pie Moonshine (40 proof) next, a combination of pure apple juice, ground cinnamon and other spices made with the homemade moonshine. Drink it hot or cold right out of a mason jar for a true southern taste.
