BANGOR-- Andrew Davis scored the first field goal in a high school tournament game at Cross Insurance Center.

The basket by Davis gave the Mount Desert Island (MDI) Trojans a 2-1 lead over Old Town with 7:07 remaining in the first quarter.

That would be the last time the number three seed Trojans would hold a lead.

Eric Hoogterp scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the sixth seeded Coyotes to a 57-44 victory over MDI in a class B quarterfinal game on Friday evening.

The Coyotes held a 19-8 lead after the first quarter.

Davis cut the deficit to 26-25 with a short jumper with 1:17 remaining in the second quarter.

Old Town scored the final four points of the quarter, including a Hoogterp basket that gave the Coyotes a 29-25 halftime lead.

Davis converted two separate three point plays in the third quarter as the Trojans evened the score at 34 with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter.

Old Town went on a 7-2 run to end the third quarter, and a 9-2 run to start the fourth quarter and cruised to the upset victory.

Adam Richardson made history by scoring the first point in a tournament game in the new building.

Richardson made one of two free throws with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter.

Hoogterp made the first three pointer, when he gave the Coyotes a 14-4 lead with 2:01 remaining in the first quarter.

Garvey Melmed added 11 points and four rebounds for the Coyotes.

Zack Bartlett scored nine points and pulled down four rebounds. Richardson recorded seven points and 12 rebounds.

Old Town (15-5) will take on #11 Ellsworth in a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 19th @ 2 p.m. Click here for the class B boys tournament schedule.

The Coyotes have won their last seven games. They split with Ellsworth during the regular season.

Davis scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Trojans who finished the season with a 14-5 record.
