It is a movement spurred on my Blake Shelton’s comment which was made in this context and this quote is being taken from the GAC website:
So many were surprised by comments Blake made on GAC's "Backstory: Blake Shelton," when discussing his 2010 win for CMA Male Vocalist of the Year.
"If I am 'Male Vocalist of the Year' that must mean that I'm one of those people now that gets to decide if it moves forward and if it moves on," said the 36-year-old singer. "Country music has to evolve in order to survive. Nobody wants to listen to their grandpa's music. And I don't care how many of these old farts around Nashville going, 'My God, that ain't country!' Well that's because you don't buy records anymore, jackass. The kids do, and they don't want to buy the music you were buying."
Well, Blake has caused a bunch of old farts and jackasses to get up off their buttocks and join forces on April 17th, 2013 to let Music Row know how they feel about the current cookie cutter music being produced, recorded and released out of Nashville today. One thing at least 99& of people I speak with agree on is that when a song comes on the radio it is almost impossible to distinguish which artist it is that is singing the song. You have to Google the title of the song to find out who the heck was singing it.
Back in the day, you never had to wonder who the artist was who was singing a song on the radio, you knew by their voice. There seems to be no distinction in today’s country music and I think that is one of the biggest gripes country music fans in general have about country music today.
From Maggie Penn, the organizer of the march on Music Row:
BUT us old farts and jackasses would buy CD's if there was something on the market worth buying!!!!! I was in Nashville recently and I met several people who feel the same as I do about the remark Blake Shelton made, " it opened the door for us Old Farts and Jackasses to do something about taking our music and radio stations back" We Old Farts & Jackasses are planning to march in Nashville, TN. on Music Row, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 We will meet at 11:00 AM at the Tony Rose Park, 08 Music Circle East, Nashville, TN. 37203 to get organized and lined up to march/walk on the sidewalks.
