A unique blend of aviation, beer and bratwurst is going to take place this Friday and the Alaska Aviation Museum.
“We have Marge Ford and the Alaska Polka Chips, a silent auction, Lowell Thomas Jr. will be signing his book and we will have food and fun," said Shari Hart, executive director of the museum.
“This is a completely privately funded event with donations from air carriers and individuals with help from the Alaska Air Carriers Association, “said executive director Joy Journeay. “We feel strongly that these living aviation pioneers need to be interviewed and honored while they are alive.”
Photographs, interviews and memorabilia gathered to tell the story of the aviation legends will be donated to the Alaska Aviation Museum.
The legends event will take place at the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Anchorage at 5 p.m. on Nov.1 and will honor eight individuals.
Being honored are Mike Hunt, Bud Rude, George Pappas, Urban Rahoi, Bill Brooks, Rita Sholton, Bobby Miller, Peter Merry and Iditarod Air Force legend George Murphy.
The fundraising event for the Aviation Legends project will take place from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Lake Hood Museum with a silent auction featuring special items donated by the aviation community, according to Hart.
“Come in a costume, come to drink beer, come to dance the shotish, you are sure to have fun," said Hart. "And if you are lucky you will go home with priceless items that will help the museum add to Alaska's history."
