The original Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival in Munich, Germany that occurs from late September until early October (usually until the first weekend). In Germany, the festival starts today, and typically over 6 million people attend, it has become the largest and most famous events held their each year, and it is an important part of Bavarian culture, according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia lists these traditional hearty foods associated with Oktoberfest include: Hendl (chicken), Schweinsbraten (roast pork), Haxn (knuckle of pork), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Würstel (sausages) along with Brez'n (pretzel), Knödeln (potato or bread dumplings, Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Reiberdatschi (potato pancakes), Sauerkraut or Blaukraut (red cabbage), and Bavarian delicacies such as Obatzda (a fatty, spiced cheese-butter concoction) and Weisswurst (a white sausage).
Traditional activities include dancing, music, games, and of course traditional German beer.
