According to Friday's KFOR News, a young woman in Oklahoma City, Okla., was arrested and taken to jail late this week for alleged animal cruelty after she was discovered covered in blood, with the body of her small dog.
On Thursday, at 12:15 a.m., local authorities were called to a home on NW 9th St., where they found 22-year-old Sammie Rebecca Bruhwiler outside, holding her dog's body - the woman was described as "hysterical" when the police arrived.
According to News OK, responding officers followed a bloody trail into the home where they located two blood-covered knives in a bathroom. An animal control officer determined that the dog appeared to have been suffocated and/or strangled.
The small dog, described only as "black and white," was described by Bruhwiler as "covered in pus and fleas" and officers stated that Bruhwiler claimed that her mother had instructed her to cut and shave the dog's hair. How the situation escalated to a violent killing is unclear - according to KFOR News, the woman claimed that while she was in the yard, the dog "started coming toward her," but investigators say that her story "does not add up."
Bruhwiler was taken to the Oklahoma County jail where, according to KRMG News, she remained as of Saturday morning; bail was set at $2,000.
