The Oklahoma State Cowboys football team meets the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl on Fri. Jan 3, 2014 on ch 23.1 KOKI in Tulsa with kickoff scheduled around 7 p.m.. This is the first meeting since Missouri, fearing the perceived power of Texas and being regarded as the odd man out, betrayed the Big 12 and left in 2012 for the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Texas' power, in the form of the Longhorn Network, actually became a liability and Texas' football team became erratic culminating in the removal of their head coach. Meanwhile Missouri and Texas A&M went on to have much success in the SEC showing that Oklahoma State should have been given the chance to play in the national championship in 2011. Oklahoma State however has turned from a team with usually only a talented group of starters to a team with much depth that has led to confusion on behalf of the coaching staff. The coaching staff is constantly yanking players and moving players around which leads to long periods of inconsistency. By the time they settled on an offensive line, they started switching quarterbacks and running backs.
Missouri has overcome adversary losing their starting quarterback to a separated shoulder for four games this season. They play a similar offense to Oklahoma State and even in the off-season collaborated with the OSU Cowboys. The Missouri defense was able to contain Johnny Manziel who earlier last year ran and passed all over the Oklahoma Sooners in last year's Cotton Bowl.
KOKI is running several specials around the Cotton Bowl starting with “Countdown to Kickoff” at 6 p.m. KOKI is also showing “FOX23 Postgame” roughly an hour after the game at approximately 11:30 p.m. The Fox Network is also having a special called “FOX College Pregame” at 6:30 p.m. on KOKI.
