Oklahoma State is a No. 5 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament. The bracket was released Sunday, March 17, 2013. The seeding was expected as the Cowboys were ranked No. 15 but lost in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.
The Cowboys will travel to San Jose, Calif., and will play Oregon on Friday at 3:40 p.m., Central Time. The game will be broadcast on TV by the TNT network. A win there would pit the Cowboys against either St. Louis or New Mexico State on Sunday.
Oregon is the 12 seed, but is coming off winning the Pac 12 tournament.
After the bracket was announced, Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford said he was not surprised at the pairing.
"A lot of it went like I thought it would. I thought we would be a five seed and I thought we were going to be in San Jose. That was kind of my gut feeling.
"Obviously we are playing a very tough Oregon team, which is playing its best basketball right now, and coming off a Pac-12 championship victory. They've won five of their last six games so it should be a great first round game."
Oklahoma State has played Oregon only one time before, and that was a loss in 1987.
Oklahoma State is 28th all-time with its 25 NCAA tournament appearances, 18th all-time with its 38 tournament wins, 14th all-time with eight appearances in the Elite Eight and 11th all-time with six Final Four appearances.
Oklahoma State won back to back national championships in 1945 and 1946.
