The Oklahoma shooting of a visiting Australian college student was a crime done “just for the fun of it.” This is what the three teens charged in this Oklahoma shooting have said to police, they were just breaking up the boredom of a summer day, according to The Inquisitr on Aug. 21.
Christopher Lane, 22, from Melbourne, Australia was jogging down a road in Ducan when three teens in a car pulled along side of him and shot him dead. It was 17-year-old Dewayne Jones who admitted to pulling the trigger of the gun delivering a fatal shot to the back of a promising college baseball player.
Jones, the oldest of the three teens, was charged with first-degree murder and held without bond. His two cohorts, James Francis Edwards Jr., 15, and Chancy Allen Luna, 16, were also charged with first-degree murder in this case.
Local Police Chief Dan Ford said in a news conference that he had interviewed all three suspects and it was Jones who told him that he and his friends shot Lane because they were bored. Ford quoted Jones saying that they did this crime “for the fun of it.”
Lane came to the U.S. to pursue his dream of becoming a baseball star. He had a baseball scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, according to Fox News today. Lane's girlfriend, Sarah Harper laid a cross next to the sidewalk where Lane was shot dead.
This killing has Australia's former Prime Minister, Tim Fischer, sending out a warning for his fellow countrymen in Australia who may be thinking of going to the USA. Fischer said:
“Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice. I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers, (but) it’s a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA. There is a gun for almost every American.”
According to the Christian Science Monitor today, a former Australian deputy PM has called for a tourism boycott to pressure the NRA.
Unfortunately any foreigner can pick up a paper and read about the carnage here in the U.S., which has been headline news recently. It may sound like a scary place once they read about the horrendous school shootings, like the one in Newton, Connecticut last year. There's also no shortage of reports on people getting gun downed in the street, much like what Lane experienced. The only difference with Lane's killing was that there was no motive to speak of except for the boredom of three very wayward teens.
