Time is running out to experience Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! playing at the San Pedro Playhouse http://sanpedroplayhouse.com until Sunday February 19, 2012.
Based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs, this musical is set in the Oklahoma Territory in 1906 and centers around a romance between Curly McLain (a cowboy) and Laurey Williams (a farm girl). Most of the action revolves around the town’s box social dance and the antagonism between the cowboys, an evil ranch hand and an unscrupulous traveling peddler.
With songs like ‘Oh What a Beautiful Morning’ and ‘Oklahoma,’ it has plenty of fun, music and romance sure to please everyone. When it first came out in 1943 it was an instant hit and it was made into a movie in 1955. Since then it has had numerous revivals and is a favorite choice for community and school productions.
