A man was arrested in Oklahoma last night for shooting his friend in the back. Deputies said that the man claimed that he was hunting Bigfoot with a friend and he accidentally shot the man, Tulsa's News On 6 reported today.
According to the Rogers County Sheriff Department, Omar Pineda and a friend went hunting for Bigfoot near 177th East Avenue and Tiger Switch Road in Rogers County, Oklahoma last night. Pineda claimed that he got frightened from a barking noise and then accidentally shot his friend in the back.
"When you start off with an explanation like that, do you believe anything after that?" Sheriff Walton said in a statement today.
Pineda carried his wounded friend to a Quick Trip gas station at Interstate 44 and 161st Street where an emergency medical team met them. Pineda was arrested and his friend was taken to the hospital.
Deputies arrested Pineda for reckless conduct with a firearm and obstruction. Pineda's father-in-law Perry Don James was also arrested for trying to hide the firearm in a nearby pond because he is a convicted felon and he didn't want the gun in his house. He was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and destruction of evidence. Pineda's wife Lacey Jane was also arrested and charged with obscruction. According to deputies, she said that her husband and his friend were shot at by another man.
"It probably was an accidental shooting. Our efforts now are to locate the weapon that was used," Sheriff Walton said.
The victim survived the shooting and is recovering at a local hospital. Authorities are investigating the incident and have yet to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
