Oklahoma City Thunder trade forward for two conditional draft picks

An Oklahoma City Thunder trade helped the team acquire two conditional draft picks as reported on Jan. 7 that the Thunder sent forward Ryan Gomes to the Boston Celtics and cash considerations to the Memphis Grizzlies to complete their first trade of the season.

Gomes, a reserve forward, had appeared in five games in 2013-14 for Oklahoma City and averaged 1.2 points in 6.9 minutes per game.

In exchange for Gomes, the Grizzlies sent the Thunder the 2014 conditional second-round draft pick that they received from the Philadelphia 76ers. The Thunder also got a second conditional second round pick from Memphis, this one for the 2017 season.

Boston received Gomes from Oklahoma City and Jerryd Bayless from Memphis while the Grizzlies picked up guard Courtney Lee and the Celtics 2017 NBA Draft pick. Thanks to the trade, Memphis received a much-needed perimeter shooter and have the money to pick up Lee's long term contract thanks to getting relief by letting Rudy Gay go in the off-season.

Meanwhile, Boston cut the Lee contract from their books, as they continue to completely rebuild and remold their franchise, after letting Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett go in the off-season. Bayless arrives in Boston as a scoring threat for the team, with similar stats of Lee, but a much smaller contract. The Celtics immediately waved Ryan Gomes following the trade.
