Spring Break?! In the past, most of OKC working class families just kept their kids home, while parents went to work. Any more, OKC Parks and Recreation really works to offer kids structured, planned supervised activities that keep kids safe and entertained. Here's this year's take:

Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation are offering two types of camp : recreational and performing arts.

A week's worth of recreation focused day camp plus lunch provided by the Oklahoma City Food Bank, for $25.00. 6-16 year olds are eligible, and session runs from March 17-21 ( Monday through Friday), from 8 am until 5 pm. Registration requires a copy of school immunizations and parent signature for permission. Call 297 2211 or look on the OKC Parks Department for more info.

Recreation camp is offered at

Douglass Rec Center, 900 Frederick Douglass Avenue.

Macklanburg Rec Center, 234 NW 117th.

Melrose Rec Center, 7800 Melrose Lane

Minnis Lakeview Rec Center 12520 NE 36th

Pilot Rec Center, 1435 NW 2

Pitts Rec Center, 1920 N Kate Avenue

Schilling Rec Center 539 SE 25th

Sellers Rec Center 8301 South Villa

Southern Oaks Rec Center 400 SW 66th

Performance Arts Day Camp, offered at 3301 NW Grand and spots obtained by calling 841-2412, 5 days, 8-5 for $90. This camp offers singing, dancing and will end with a performance for parents/community on Friday.

Some families are merely glad to have a planned break from school activities so they can spend some time together out of the typical routine.

Some kids will merely go on to their usual daycare arrangement, and parents back to work.

Some families will take a formal vacation. Skiing and the coast of Mexico are not unusual.
