Oklahoma City, Friday, November 08 2013 from 9am until 12 is the selected date for the workshop on developing a broader understanding of suicidality in youth and young adults. 7301 West Reno Avenue in Oklahoma City.
Featured speaker, Diana Winslow LCSW is a seasoned professional working in both mental health and addictions issues over the last 25 years with special attentions to issues of young persons and their families. Ms.Winslow has provided community and professional education for about the same amount of time, with reviews noting that her expertise translates well to education and useable understanding, in delivery of fairly complex and sensitive materials. This is a somber, but not hopeless topic and that has been reflected in Ms. Winslow's having never lost a client to suicide and planning to give this talk.
The greater Oklahoma City area has struggled with 10 suicides in persons under the age of 21 over the course of the last year, and there have been a variety of increased attentions regarding this.
Among a wide variety of other jobs in crisis and acute work, Ms. Winslow functioned as a team member in two parts of an CDC/Emory/Morehouse developed successful suicide prevention youth/school/hospital program in an Atlanta suburb, which became a national prototype.
Ms. Winslow's forum will step from general preventions to a better understanding of complexities of community and culture. This will be blended with some thoughts on what families, communities, houses of worship, schools and clinicians may miss in developing supportive responses. Ms. Winslow will make note of relevant information from the above program and more.
Participants will leave with a better understanding of the fall out of Social Cannibalism as a construct of issues like bullying, teen dating violence and suicide with directive food for thought about next right things as individual service providers, family, neighbors and caregivers or leaders and communities as a whole.
