The Primetime Emmy Awards are a signal of the changing seasons. Setting the tone for the Fall, with Summer now behind us, we are reminded that it will be Award Season all too soon again. So many faces, slowly easing themselves back into the rhythm of the business, have that sun kissed glow, and ocean bleached hair.
On this balmy night, our dear friends and work colleagues at OK! TV USA are hosting a pre-Emmy party at the Sofitel in West Hollywood / Beverly Hills. Hailing from one of the UK's iconic pop culture magazines, OK! TV USA is a dynamic newcomer on the televised, entertainment news scene. Here I must inject a very special thank you to Hubbard Broadcasting Founder Stan Hubbard for inviting us to be a part of the pre-Emmy celebration, and to Senior Executive Producer, OK! TV Mark Berryhill and Reelz SVP Communications Robyn McPeters for making us feel so welcome!
From the valet to checking in, the process was seamless. Bo (Roberts) and I quickly met up with my best friend and business partner Jessica (Kill) and our own Scotty Grand, Sony's R&B recording artist who released his debut album "A Song Writer's Right" last month. A moment after that, we met another dear friend, the brilliant cinematographer responsible for masterminding the much lauded look of ABC's "The Quest," Mr. Mark Kohl. We popped by the red carpet for a moment, just in time to catch a glimpse of the iconic Empress of fashion, Ms. Sue Wong deep in conversation with our favorite, über glamorous host of OK! TV, the amazing Viviana Vigil.
The lovely Paul Palacios from Hint Water swept by with much need re-hydration in the form of an icy cold Hint Water... which the stunning Alexandra Tonelli and I, both indulged in; though Freixenet had mini bottles of their "cava" (a Spanish sparkling wine created in the methode champenoise tradition) at the ready, while tuna tartare cones and provencale woodfired flatbreads from the highly regarded Estérel Restaurant circulated the room. On the Sofitel site I read that "Estérel reflects its origins in the South of France, this exciting new French restaurant and lounge offers an inspired contemporary menu featuring seasonal selections infused with fragrant herbes de Provence: saffron, fennel and basil." In short, Executive Chef Marius Blin certainly has done so. Bravo!
At this point, we had staked our territory on the patio of Estérel. Bo (most coveted for his role in the most recent 300: Rise of the Empire, and being on the cover of various magazines), Alexandra's husband - aka Adrian Paul (though mostly widely known and loved as "Duncan MacLeod," the "Highlander"), Thomas Ian Nicholas (who captured the hearts of many a lass in the "American Pie" series) and PR guru, Ruben Diaz were locked in conversation; a few seats over Tom Greene and Erin Darling were cozying up; while Jeff Rice, Executive Producer on a few films you may have heard of such as "Lone Survivor", "End of Watch" and William H. Macy's upcoming directorial piece, "Rudderless" (October 17, 2014) and his colleagues were deep in discussion - no doubt about a new project (at this moment, I gather he has about 20 films forthcoming!).
We could hear Dancing with the Stars, Mark Ballas on the guitar, and his caught a glimpse of his series co-star Derek Hough wandering about (really, all you had to do was follow the flashes and you knew where any of these men were!).
Sadly I missed getting to speak with the lovely Blanca Blanco, the dashing Vincent de Paul and the very snazzy Perez Hilton.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening and our entire team sends the very best wishes to Mr. Hubbard and his entire team for success on Monday night. Seth Meyers Hosts the 66th Emmy Awards Live Mon, Aug. 25 8ET/5PT.
