On Friday, Odom was driving a Mercedes SUV when he was pulled over on U.S. Route 221 in Los Angeles. After failing a field sobriety test he was arrested for suspicion of DUI, taken to a Van Nuys jail, and booked. If Odom pleads no contest to one count of DUI, Shapiro can get him off the hook with probation and mandatory alcohol education classes. Of course since Lamar declined to take chemical tests his license will be suspended for a year also.
Life is clearly going off the tracks for Odom and a plea bargain is probably his best course of action. Sadly, the L.A. Lakers spoke about cutting ties with the basketball star who helped them win their 15th and 16th NBA titles. Lamar's personal problems, alleged drug use, and recent DUI bust is apparently too much for the team to handle.
The good news however is that Lamar seems like a strong guy. After winning the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011, Odom said that he'd kept working hard and had been "blessed". That and the fact that he's trying to relax with a few rented movies, suggests that he might be able to pull through the tough times.
