Oil spill update: BP commercial in Tampa says BP here for the long haul (video)
Those in Tampa Bay may be familiar with the following BP commercial, discussing BP’s role in oil spill recovery. Speaking in the video is Iris Cross, who serves with BP Community Outreach department and her message is that BP is committed to the long term issues of oil spill recovery and they won’t leave just because the Macondo well has been sealed and oil is no longer flowing.
There’s no doubt that great controversy remains surrounding the oil spill and many question how much oil spilled, how much oil remains at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico and what the long term consequences will be from the unprecedented, widespread use of chemical dispersants.
BP released a statement on their website regarding the capping of the Macondo well and long term efforts to restore the Gulf of Mexico.
It reads, “The completion of the relief well operation in the Gulf of Mexico is an important milestone in our continued efforts to restore the Gulf Coast. However our work is not finished. BP remains committed to remedying the harm that the spill caused to the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf Coast environment, and to the livelihoods of the people across the region.”
