Oil spill update: BP announces Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team strategy (video)

Edward Owens PH.D who serves as technical advisor for BP’s Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team spoke on video regarding BP’s plans for long term beach restoration and cleanup assessment.  Dr. Owens spoke of the transition from cleaning up oil in the water to assessing the amount of oiled products on the shoreline.  He didn’t mention the recent reports from Tampa’s USF stating that much of the oil didn’t leave but is on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico, but he and the team did explain the processes used to asses oil products on the shore.

Dr. Owens didn’t say that this part of the cleanup process is the final aspect, but rather a step in what will be a sequence of events hopefully leading to the end of the oil spill catastrophe.

Duncan Fitzgerald is a member of the Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team and he said that at this point, the objective is to get rid of any ‘hint’ of oil that has washed upon the beaches.
