Thursday, BP continued to work on placing the containment dome cap over the gushing oil well and cleaned the area around the wellhead, as the state of Florida prepares for the oil spill to hit their shores.
A few setbacks have plagued BP over the past few days including a blade that was stuck in mid-cut which they were able to free Thursday morning. BP said that they should know by Thursday night or Friday morning if this latest effort will work to stop the flow of oil.
"It's too early to tell," Mark Proegler, BP’s spokesperson said Thursday. "The hope is to get as much as they can."
Over 100 miles of Louisiana's coastline have already been hit with the oil, and it hit Alabama and Mississippi coastlines, while Florida is expecting to see the oil hit their shores later today or tomorrow.
BP has over 20,000 workers attempting to keep oil from reaching coastal communities.
Scientists found oil about 10 miles off the coast of Florida's panhandle earlier this week, and Wednesday it was just four miles away. It is estimated that Pensacola will be hit first.

Many hair salons around Salt Lake City, Utah have collected cut hair which is being shipped to the coast of Louisiana to put in nylon bags that help to soak up some of the oil before it hits the coastline. Hair is a natural source of collecting oil, and many companies want to do what they can to help with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
