Oil spill doc ‘Vanishing Pearls’ premieres in theaters

The 2010 BP oil spill left a lot of devastation in its wake and a new film arriving in select theaters this weekend drives that message home with a look at one Louisiana Gulf Coast community left fighting for its survival. “Vanishing Pearls” directed by Nailah Jefferson makes its theatrical debut in New York and L.A. on Friday April 18.

The documentary which is being released by AFFRM/ARRAY focuses on the struggles of an African-American oysterman community in Pointe à la Hache, Louisiana that was severely impacted by the nation’s worst environmental disaster.

“Vanishing Pearls” debuts in theaters in New York (Imagenation Raw Space ) and Los Angeles (Downtown Independent) Friday April 18 and expands to other US cities in the following weeks including Montgomery, Alabama on April 26 and Birmingham, Alabama on June 10 at The Sidewalk Film Festival.
