Tuesday, Adm. Thad Allen from the Coast Guard said that a newly installed oil spill containment cap is working and is limiting the amount of oil leaking into the Gulf of Mexico. Allen said Tuesday that over 14,800 barrels of oil were stopped from leaking into the ocean over the last 24 hours, and that the amount is climbing steadily each day since the containment cap was put into place on Friday.

BP is also currently assessing how they are handling claims from people hurt who’ve been financially hurt by the oil spill. This comes after President Obama said Monday that he doesn’t want BP nickeling and diming the people who live along the shoreline and make their living there.

Allen said that the government will assess "to see if we need to provide any oversight." He also said that BP is struggling to handle claims from fisherman.

"I have never said this is going well. We're throwing everything at it that we've got," he said. "I've said time and time again that nothing good happens when oil is on the water." He called the accident a "catastrophe" for the region.

Kevin Coburn from Salt Lake City said that he wished there was something he could do to help with the wild life in the Louisiana area. “I watched a video of the first few birds covered in oil that were found along the Louisiana coast. There will no doubt be tens of thousands more.”
