Oil pulling is not a new therapy, it is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy that has been around for thousands of years. It has gained popularity in recent years as many people have shifted from reliance on prescription medications and moved towards more natural healing methods.
There are many ailments that can be alleviated by practicing oil pulling, which include the following:
- Back and neck pain
- Bad breath
- Chronic Fatigue
- Dental Cavities
- Migraine Headaches
Oil pulling is simple and easy to do. Simply take one tablespoon of organic, unrefined coconut oil (other oils can be used) and swish it around in your mouth for 20 minutes, preferably first thing in the morning. Be sure to pull the oil through your teeth and keep it moving around in your mouth for the full 20 minutes. Do NOT swallow. After the time is up simply spit it out and rinse your mouth with water.
Why does it work? When we eat food, especially sugary foods, an acidic environment is created in the mouth. This lowers the pH levels in the mouth which leads to a rise in unhealthy bacteria. The oil is alkaline, which helps to keep the "bad" bacteria at bay.
Oil pulling is safe and easy to do. Give it a try and see what happens for you!
