Is this guy for real ?
While BP, Transocean & Halliburton are in federal court facing chagres of "gross neglegance" steming from "corrupt " and "unethical" practices by their employees which resulted in the "murder" of 11 men under their supervision and the largest environmental disaster in the history of the industry. This guy, Jack Gerald wants our government to be "reasonable" when making future legislation governing the oil and gas industry.
Lobbist and spokesmen for the oil and gas industry have not the slightest clue of what goes on in the industry. These lobbist and spokesmen spend their day in their air conditioned office sitting in a $500 chair in their $1,000 suits, dreaming up of a wish list.
The real truth is in the oil and gas industry if you were to require every employee who works in the field to take a polygraph test , every one would fail. Gong one step further if you were to require the office supervisors of these people to take the same polygraph test 90% would fail, and as you move up the corparate ladder the % lessens until you get to the very top where the percentage is still 25% - 30 % of those men at the highest ranks would fail.
The reality is the oil & gas industry is a corrupt industry, taking short cuts, violating legal requirements, endangering and killing personnel. The statistice of injuries , deaths , environmental pollution do not change, only the names of the people who are injured , died or created environmental pollution change.
Every single day in the US there are 300 drilling rigs working, and on at least one of those drilling rigs every day ,one or more experiences a "near miss" of having a blowout exactly as BP did. Thats a 3 in 300 chance every day of the year we come within a hairs breath of a disaster exactly as what we experienced in the Gulf as a result of the "neglegance" of BP/Transocean/Halliburton.
The government needs to get mean , REAL MEAN , and put some individuals in jail for thier actions and hold the companies accountable for the employees actions and punish them equally. These lobbist and spokesmen speak of JOBS as if it is the magical word, well i have a word even more magical , LIFE , protect the lives of the people working offshore , protect the environment which supports the LIVES of so many others.
Get real man , the oil & gas industry needs much more stringent regulations and fines , because current regulations and fines are not protecting the people and the environment. BP / Transocean / Halliburton proved that.
