Ohio Supreme Court will not hear Ryan Widmer's appeals for a fourth trial

For now, it doesn’t appear that local convicted killer Ryan Widmer will receive a fourth trial. The Ohio Supreme Court announced this morning that they won’t review Widmer’s appeal for a fourth trial.

He is serving a 15-year to life prison sentence for killing his wife Sarah in the couple’s bathtub in 2008. His recent appeal focused on the removal of the bathtub. The defense claimed the police didn’t have the legal right to remove the bathtub from the home.

Ryan and Sarah Widmer had only been married for 114 days before Sarah Widmer’s tragic death. The police immediately focused on her husband as a potential suspect.

In the first trial, Widmer’s conviction was overturned for juror misconduct. The second trial ended in a hung jury. In the third trial, a jury convicted Widmer.

During the three trials, the Cincinnati media machine feasted on the story for months. The case had so many twists and turns that Dateline, an NBC program examined the death in a special titled “The Mystery in the Master Bedroom.”
