Stefon Diggs, a five-star wide receiver recruit from Maryland will make his decision this Friday. His finalists are Ohio State, Florida, Auburn and Maryland. He will announce his choice on Friday evening at 10 p.m.
Diggs has many of the athletic qualities the Buckeyes want. His size and speed gives him versatility. This would allow him to play multiple roles as a wide receiver and running back. Should Stefon decide to sign with Ohio State, he may have the chance to play this fall.
One of the coaching staff’s focuses is to find playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. While quarterback Braxton Miller can be a difference maker, they want to reduce the burden on him to do everything. This was painfully evident last season as the Buckeyes' biggest highlights were modified plays created by Miller’s instincts.
Should Diggs sign with Ohio State, his athletic versatility could make him fill a Percy Harvin type role. As many will remember, Urban Meyer used Percy in a variety of formations utilizing his speed in order to get him as many touches as possible. This allowed Harvin to become a game changer. Urban is probably using his past success of developing a similar athlete like Percy to try to lure Diggs to Ohio State. If he were to come, it would complete an already stellar recruiting class.
Stay tuned, as I’ll report once he makes his decision.
